Raphael Saadiq: Instant Vintage

Raphael Saadiq Instant VintageRaphael Saadiq Instant Vintage

Raphael Saadiq's Instant Vintage is an all time favorite of mine. The track arrangement seems to be a collections of songs and skits for transitions and flow. The album is very personal and reflective in nature. Good music for the soul. I dig the poetic and mellow dramatic "Blind Man". It reminds me of "Mr. Window" from Arrested Development in it reflective sense.

While I was typing the lyrics for "Blind Man" had chance to do another Spotmat vs. SLSM Mat comparison. The two mats I use the most on my Technics 1200. The VTA ring goes up one notch with the SLSM mat all other variables are the same. For comparisons sake the vinyl is cleanly captured. I noticed the SLSM Mat remains the champion. However, at this level of detailed listening results can be real or imagined.

Raphael Saadiq

Lyrics: Raphael Saadiq "Blind Man"
The other day when I was walking down the street
I had trouble on my mind
Yes I did now

I saw a blind man walking
I heard him call my name
Couldn't believe what he said to me
He said he felt my pain

There was nothing I could say or do
For the words that he spoke were more than true

Took two steps back and looked in his eyes, and oh
This is what he said

He said that
I heard your voice
Here's her name
Knock on that door
She'll let you in
Say my name, Say my name
He said
For twenty-two dollars
She'll take away the, Pain

I knocked and the door opened
Ohoo, What a pretty sight to see

Now I knew this blind man knew me
Cause how would he know what I like
When He can't even see

She told me to have a seat
Would you like a Drug? Or something to eat
Now number one didn't appeal to me, but
number two was just fine, but
I think I need curtain number three

She said that
I heard some voice
He told me your name
Now don't say a word
You have been framed
Say my name, Say my name

Keep your twenty-two dollars
Or you'll be worse than you came

He said that
I heard your voice
Here's her name
Knock on that door
She'll let you in
Say my name, Say my name, Please

He said
For twenty-two dollars
She'll take away the pain
Yes She will

He heard my Voice
yes he did
Here's her name
Knock on that door
She'll let you in
Say my name, Say my name
That's all he said to me today

He said
For twenty-two dollars
She'll take away the pain
I heard ya voice
She said she heard my name
He told me your name
Now don't say a word
You have been framed
Say my name, Say my name

Now keep your twenty-two dollars
Or you'll be worse than you came
