Original Liner Notes:
In a sense, the title "After Hours" merely depicts the totally relaxed and informal mood of this album. "My Favorite Things" would perhaps have been a more appropriate description of this new Sarah Vaughan outling. Like the Rodgers & Hammerstein song for "The Sound Of Music," which she has included here, this collection is made up of some of Sarah's "favorite things." Songs such as "Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye," "In a Sentimental Mood," "Wonder Why," "Vanity" and "Easy To Love" have always been among Sarah's own personal favorites and part of her carefully chosen repertoire. With these songs, and in this, easy going, lights down low atmosphere Sarah finds a chance to be completely herself. There are no formal orchestrations, no set routines to follow, no preconceived plans. Just as the songs are among here "favorite things," she has chosen for her accompaniment two favorites -Geroge Duviver on bass and Mundell Lowe on guitar. Together, they join with her in a creative, spontaneous session. The result is Sarah singing with no restrictions or design, with a freedom that makes for a "when she feels like singing -sing style." It is unpretentious, warm and intimate. It is just Sarah Vaughan aftee hours with some of her "favorite things."
